Multiculturalism & Mental Health

Filed under: Mental Health — bnaipal @ 8:32 am

The Australian Federal Govt. funding for Mental Health projects with a stress on Multiculturalism seems to be a waste of funds. Inspite of numerous ‘workshops’, ‘conferences’ & skills updating seminars, the participants do not seem to learn a single aspect of Multiculturalism in the mental health sector. Is it the fault of the organisers or the participants?

The approaches adopted in treating clients from other ethnic backgrounds does not seem to have changed & the plight of these clients seems to only grow horrendously. Will the situation & attitude change or will the Govt. be blindly funding those projects hoping for positive outcomes?

Writing on the Wall

Filed under: Mental Health — bnaipal @ 9:35 am

In the lonely ward I am
Where the medication ignites the man
To slur his speech & walk his gait
To cry his tears and solemly await
With hopeless agitation & dryness
His silent hope cannot impress
With despair & a heart that aches
His nightmare flows & body shakes
The doctors glare and take their notes
The mad machine is what denotes
The oppressed, disadvantaged and feared
Normality is imprisoned in the pressure peered
may life be reckoned with & a steroid
To an island of bliss…
Evil medication that hurts you more
Makes you collapse & fall to the floor
Dreaded drug that blinds & numbs
will be continued…

Australian Census

Filed under: Mental Health — bnaipal @ 9:17 am

For the client suffering from Schizophrenia, the Census next week will prove to be quite a dilemma. At midnight on Tuesday, the number of persons in the house will have to be documented. If the client is having an auditory hallucination, will he have to include the names of the people who are ‘talking’ with him at midnight? How the hell is he going to get any relevant data about them?

The staff is always right no matter what, but in the case of foreign students…mmm…let their money talk!
